• Pharyngeal exercises: The tongue hold swallow (also known as the Masako swallow) anchors the tongue base during swallowing, thereby pulling on the posterior pharyngeal wall and the muscles that elevate the larynx. This maneuver can be repeated as a swallowing exercise, but should not be utilized with a bolus.
