• According to the author, the evidence suggests that the best swallowing outcomes for patients result from rigorous swallowing exercises. The author mentions the Masako maneuver and effortful swallow as swallowing rehabilitation exercises that are performed in conjunction with actual swallowing activity. Such exercises have been noted to make swallowing rehabilitation more effective.
