Appendix F: Message Posted Re Use of the Maneuver When Eating
Steele, C. M. (2008, April 14). Masako and effortful swallow maneuvers. Message posted to http://tcuspeechpracticum.blogspot.com
• The Masako maneuver is recommended only as an exercise with saliva swallows. When used with swallowing a bolus, the maneuver was reported to increase vallecular residue because the tongue is anchored during the maneuver. The maneuver works by eliciting greater movement of the posterior pharyngeal wall.
